In My Bag: Essentials

Got back from Tampa yesterday and now off to New Orleans for Mardi Gras! Needless to say I do a lot of traveling. I’ve become a bit of a pro at packing and have learned to only bring the essentials to save space (which is especially helpful for airport travel). So I wanted to give you all a look into what’s most important for me to keep in my bag, not just when traveling, but all the time:

  • Tory Burch Wallet: Love the smaller size of this one, but it’s still pretty roomy
  • Chanel ‘Sari Dore’ Rouge Coco Lipstick, Mary Kay ‘Cafe Au Lait’ Lip Gloss, and Burt’s Bees Lip Balm: All 3 of these are a must for my lips – lip balm for smoothing, lip stick for color, and light mauve lip gloss for shine
  • iPhone 5 and Ear Buds: Tunes for long plane rides/road trips and ear buds are also great for working out
  • Listerine POCKETMIST: This spray is awesome for when you are on the go, especially for business trips when you don’t have time for gum if on the way to a meeting… It’s strong but worth it
  • Chanel Sunnies and Case: Always protect your eyes!!

What kinds of things do you carry in your bag? Any big differences from mine? Anything unusual?

Music Edition: Chicks That Rock

Happy Wednesday everyone! Not sure if you knew this about me, but I love music. So I’d like to put together a playlist for you every once in a while to showcase some really great songs I’m digging at the moment. One of the main things I like so much about Austin is that there are always great shows and festivals going on. SXSW is coming up in March which should be a lot of fun. I’ll probably put together a little playlist of some bands that are playing during that week and share it with you guys. For now I want to share some tunes from a playlist on my Spotify called ‘Chicks That Rock’. Hope you enjoy!

1. Rill Rill – Sleigh Bells
2. A Little Piece – The Jezabels
3. F-cking Boyfriend – The Bird & The Bee
4. Stadium Love – Metric
5. Bad Girls – M.I.A.
6. My Delirium – Ladyhawke
7. Petition – Tennis
8. Send Me Down – Haim
9. Timekeeper – Grace Potter & The Nocturnals
10. Hurricane – MS MR

P.S. Today is the one year anniversary of my blog. Crazy. Looking forward to big things coming in this second year!

Trending: black on black on black

Not only is Black & White a big color combo trend right now, like I showed you in my style post last week, but so is that all black everything look. Here are some of my faves I’ve seen lately.

1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8

I think the key to an all black look is to have something interesting involved, since it’s just one color. Whether that be a leather pant/skirt, a fun peplum, a faux fur vest, a beanie or a fancy pair of heels. Different textures make it more exciting as well. My favorite part about this trend is that it’s classic, chic and edgy all at the same time. Don’t be scurrrd. Give it a try!

PJ Party: Girl’s Night In

Image via Pinterest

That’s right. I’m staying in on this Friday night. Me and 2 of my best friends are going to cook dinner (well… I will supervise the cooking of the dinner), watch movies and chit chat the night away. We might even play some board games!

Ok, so we aren’t going to be looking as glamorous as these models! I think we’ll just stick with PJ’s tonight, haha.

This week has been pretty rough on me for some reason and I really want to get out of this weird mindset I’ve been in lately. Not sure what my problem is, but I’m hoping a little R&R with my besties will be the cure :)

What kinds of things do you do to try and get out of your funk? I’d love some tips.

Wish me luck! And happy weekend friends.

High Top Kicks

High Top Kicks

I’m pretty obsessed with high top sneakers right now. They can be super edgy with some high shine jeans, or really sweet if you pair them with a floral dress or skirt. I love how they can instantly make an outfit interesting. They are your statement piece with jeans and a plain white tee. I’ve been seeing them everywhere lately.

one / two / three / four

If you were thinking of trying out the whole wedged sneaker thing, but just couldn’t quite get into it (like me) make sure to give the flat version a try. It’s a little less risky, but still fashion forward.

And of course I had to get some for myself! So I opted for these from F21. They are super cute as well as affordable. Can’t wait to wear them with some black tights, a fitted dress, and my surplus jacket :)

Happy Thursday!

Happy 2013!

Happy New Year friends! I can’t believe it’s 2013. So weird to type that 3 instead of a 2, haha. 2012 was such a big year for me. So many changes: endings, new beginnings, starting this blog, moving to a new city, lots of happy times, a few sad times to. It’s crazy to look back and reflect at how much my life has changed since this time last year. And I can truly say, even though it’s going to be hard to beat how great 2012 was, that this year will to be even more amazing.

My resolution: to be more productive. Working from home can be tricky. Technically I’m being productive, but then at the same time there are days where I don’t get out of my PJs at all! So here’s to productivity and having the best year yet!

And good luck with your resolutions. You can do it :)

Outfit Inspiration: New Year’s Eve

YAY! Happy Friday friends! Here’s some NYE outfit inspiration for ya consisting mainly of (not in any particular order): sequins, sparkle, black tights, leopard print, faux fur, GOLD, & leather. That about sums up all my favorite trends from this season! Enjoy :)

This is the perfect party dress in a perfectly festive holiday color, GOLD!

A big faux fur vest & leather pants will keep you warm, but lookin’ sexy at the same time.

If you want to opt for a more comfy/casual look, but still feel cool, go for leather and leopard with a bad ass Chelsea boot.

Ummm, sequins AND leopard with black tights. Need to say more?!

A colorful sequined cardi is definitely a more fun, unexpected option. You’ll stand out among all the black ensembles!

I love the idea of an all black NYE look with a huge, sparkly statement necklace & a bright party clutch.

A great tapestry printed dress and a bright, bold coat would be another fun, unexpected, yet festive option.

This look is very similar to what I’ll be wearing to ring in the New Year. A sparkly, fitted dress, white blazer, and black opaque tights with some high heeled booties. Only difference is that I’ll definitely be adding some sequins to my outfit. I LOVE sequins!

I hope you all have a lovely weekend. It’s almost Christmas, so be merry :)
